Julien Alfred extended her unbeaten run in 2025 with another commanding performance on Sunday, claiming victory in the women’s 100 metres at the BAUHAUS-galan Diamond League meeting in Stockholm, Sweden.
The 24-year-old Olympic gold medallist stormed to the finish line in 10.75 seconds, setting a new meet record and solidifying her place among the world’s elite sprinters. The win marks her second in just three days, following a 10.89-second triumph in Oslo on Thursday.
Alfred’s time in Stockholm not only lowered her season’s best but also shattered the previous meet record of 10.90 seconds. The performance further underscores her consistent dominance in the short sprints this season.
With this latest win, Alfred remains the second-fastest woman in the world over 100 metres in 2025, trailing only Melissa Jefferson-Wooden of the United States. However, she currently leads the global rankings over 200 metres, with an impressive mark of 21.88 seconds.
The Saint Lucian sprint star, who made history last year as the nation’s first Olympic gold medallist, admitted that she faced mental hurdles heading into Sunday’s race. Self-doubt, she revealed, had crept in following her race in Oslo.
Speaking after her Stockholm victory, Alfred said a crucial conversation with her coach, Edrick Floreal, helped reset her mindset. “After Oslo, I had a long talk with my coach. He went through everything with me and reminded me that I’m in great shape.”
The reassurance proved effective. “I was doubting myself a bit, but that chat gave me the confidence I needed,” Alfred explained. “I’m happy with how the race turned out.”
Despite the quick turnaround between events, Alfred showed no signs of fatigue, executing a clean and powerful race under pressure. She acknowledged the challenge but said she was well-prepared for the demands of the schedule.
“The turnaround was short, but it’s nothing new to me,” she said. “I’ve done it before, and I know how to handle it.”
With Stockholm now behind her, Alfred will return to her training base in Austin, Texas, as she prepares for her next major outing at the Prefontaine Classic on July 5. There, she will look to maintain her winning form as the season continues to build toward the World Championships.
